Take it in to a bank in Canada, get a credit in Canadian dollars and then convert that to US dollars.
If it is a significant amount of coin, it will have to be rolled.
If
you are in the U.S., you could try one of the Canadian Banks like RBC
or BMO, but I’d be very surprised if they could help you, or if they
could, it would be very expensive.
Take
the coin to an international airport where they have a FOREX stand.
They can exchange it for you. There will be a substantial exchange fee,
so be warned about that. If it is a substantial amount, it might be
worth it, but if it is just petty change, don’t bother. Then it would be
a waste of time. Just throw it in a bin of “foreign currencies/coins”
like I do. I have Dinars, Francs, Pence, Pounds, Rupees and paisas, and
of course Canadian coins and currency…all in my RPI college mug.
Whenever I go abroad and get change for something…even if I am paying in
dollars (USD), I get local currency as change. This just accumulates
and is put into that “foreign currency” mug. I must have at least $100
in it by now…maybe more. It still isn’t worth it to take that with me on
my next trip and exchange it for US dollars…
